This is the Mrs.

No more red tomatoes for Dolly.

Dolly gave up her job as the reporter for The Hen House Journal due to an illness that was incurable.

Camden and I took her to Dr. Jennifer today at Rock and Country (Hatcher) Veternary, with the idea that she was pretty bad and hoping she could be helped. After an examination from Pam and Jennifer we were all in agreement that she was suffering due to internal problems and it was time to help her not suffer any longer.

Needless to say, the other hens have learned to eat the red tomatoes and they will miss Dolly calling them to roost, danger and especially food!

Now we will see who is going to take over the Queen's place...not sure anyone can!
Good bye Dolly.....but we all will remember you with fondness.

The MRS.and MR., Camden, Garrett, Sally Kaye, Logan, Morgan, John, Cyn, Hank, Marni,
Kim, Gary and Shuggie and all the friends who came to hear Dolly sing!

A New Day

Daily Hen report:
Today our hens had a meeting and we decided to go on with things as usual and mourn no more. I decided to do that by sitting on 3 freshly laid eggs as I had always sat on Mary's after she laid them! I was accused of eating them, in which I will never tell!!! I will also continue to sit upon eggs until I am too old to get up into the next or I am to fat to fit, which ever comes first. The Mrs. caught me again and quietly took the eggs out from under me and let me still sit and think!
The editor (the Mrs) found out I has spelled especially wrong in my last post, and it should have been Eggspecially! I hope she does not terminate me from my report position for that mistake!
Thought for the day in honor of Mary: Eat the ripe tomatoes now b/c you may not be there to enjoy them tomorrow!

Red Tomatoes

My good best friend, Mary, expired last night. I have been by her side most of my life and expecially the last week. The Mrs. tried her best to cure what ailed Mary, but she must have been pretty far gone when she realized Mary was not doing well.
I learned a lot from Mary and will miss how she taught us to look for the brightest spot a day could bring, red tomatoes! I'm going to try to like red tomatoes!

My do days go fast when you are having fun. I have watched the babies grow and now can you believe it, Princess's Sister, Jin is now an official setting hen! You know this generation of hens are not what we were like. While I'm talking about this, Mary, the other Queen of the hen house (Moi is the first queenie) has decided that she wants to be a mommy also...so she's sitting too. I heard the Mrs. talk about these teens wanting to have babies just to have babies, well that word must have gotten around in the hen house....everyone is wanting to set or sit, oh, my what is it! .. I think I need to do an article on this in the Henhouse daily newspaper! They will disagree with me, but it's true! Today the Mrs. found April on a nest...she came to live with us and her sister, Mae in May. The Mrs. went back and there it was...a tiny green egg...It is so small the egg market probably could not rate it as a small, but an extra small. The longer hens lay the bigger eggs they give....So officially we have 10 laying hens, but those darn girls are "laying" off work to set so we don't really have that many a day. With the hot weather we are getting about 3-6 a day. That won't keep feed in our craw if the Mrs. were to sell them. I hear that she just gives them away and her daughter is her best customer. That husband of her daughter eats 3 eggs every day and that will keep 3 of our hens busy every morning to meet his needs. We gladly do it just for the Mrs. favorite
son-in-law! Her daughter does lots of cooking for other people so she really goes through those babies!!! whoops, I mean those non-fertile eggs we produce. Speaking of babies, the Mrs. has a baby at her house. Bryan and Li Weaver are staying with her and their daughter Sarah and their baby who is 15 months old. So far I have not heard much about their stay but that Madilynn is keeping Elizabeth for them some of the time. The Mrs. husband left for NY for a mission trip. I told the girls what a mission trip was and they could not believe people would do that just for this God who loves them. They are working in two churches in NYC. They pulled off in this big coach that was loaded with people and will return on Saturday. They are doing a family trip and teaching two day camps and upward basketball. I wonder if they could use some hens next year! I have heard the Mrs.husband say they had enough old hens so guess they could use some of the younger ones from the hen house! Well, must go before I get the Mr. in trouble!....just writing what I have heard...you know Elaine and Debbie are no spring chicks!

The Daily Hen has just posted that Princess is no longer the Princess...but is the Queen! Of course this does not mean she takes Moi's place, but this means she has two chicks hatched Sunday.
The Mrs. has asked me to publish a contest naming the two chicks.
Submit a name for a Rooster and and name for a Hen.
The winner will win time at the Ritz as well as their picture in the Daily Hen!

Contest will end August 1st. (By then we might know what sex we have!!!

A New Day

Life is wonderful here at "The Ritz"...., actually I thought it could not get any better until I woke up this morning to a strange noise in our hen house! I knew that Princess was up to something when she stayed out late one night, but what could I say. Not only did she loose her glass slipper, she lost her mind!!!

About a 3 weeks ago she absolutely would not get off that nest for the "working" girls to lay their eggs. We had to just push her off and then she would climb back on as soon as they got off. You remember, I don't lay, and I have a new job now and it's the anchor woman for "The Ritz" and I have my wings full with that. These girls started quite a ruckus about that "Princess". They really had her "pecked" as a "you know what"! Well, I didn't report what they were saying b/c I had more trust in princess than they did. You should have heard their cackling about her!!!

After a few days of just sitting, the Mrs. realized that sweet "Princess" was wanting to NEST!!! Oh, my! I overheard an conversation with her friend, Lois and she said might get some fertile eggs for "The PRINCESS". Well that was a good story in itself. The Mrs. has some friends who are the in-laws of her daughter and low and behold they had some relatives (Sissy and Leon) who had some neighbors WHO had some fertile eggs! The Mrs. got a call from these relatives that their neighbors had some eggstra eggs they had not put in the frig....so Lois jumped in the car with The Mrs. and took off to I'm not sure where, and got the eggs from those lucky hens who have a rooster in their house! Oh, MY!!!

After that little trip we just hid and watched as Princess turned into a Mean Ole Queen!.

I am not sure this story can end, but The Mrs. has company coming for G-man's BD and she is not worth plucking when she has things to do....so tune in tomorrow and I will tell you what happened!

Friday, May 14, 2010

There has been a lot of water under the bridge since I have clucked last. My first cluck is to the book "Henny, pen-pen"...if anyone has not read this then you don't know about "the sky is falling". Chick that out and you will know what a real"chicken", chickens are! Well, the sky fell here but not the way it was in the book...my,my what a weekend of that awful stuff. I thought us girls were going to have to get new waders like our feathered cousins, the ducks! We were ready to fly the coop if we needed, but all in all we were safe. The Mrs. saw to that, thanks to her son Hank who dilligently came over to check on us while the Mrs. and her man were in a place of serenity called OKC. I think that means O.K. meaning in O.K. Feeds out of Ft. Smith, but not sure of that. Anyway, in OKC I heard the Mrs. say that it blew so much that it blew all the rain over here and their weekend was eggsolutely beautiful! Well, we had a "henn" of a time over here. The sky actually fell all around us! No chickin! I mean it "litterly"!!! Our litter in out pen was as wet as it could be and our feet got so wet we had to roost all day!!! The Mrs. came home to this and immediately turned the fans on in our pen to dry things out. She even turned the "litter" several times a day to get it to drying more. Our "girls" house was o.k. We saw Betsy several times come in and clean our poop up so it would not smell too bad in this damp weather. The Mrs. even put out a new "atomizer" with a new eggroma! It's smells a bit weird for our hen house, but we gets lots of comments on what kind of perfume we use!

Now, today the Mrs. had her grand daughter, Sally Kaye and a sweet friend, Emma, over to play a while. In the middle of their play time they brought us all a treat! The Mrs. doesn't like for us to have too much processed stuff so I'm sure they didn't ask her when they brought us a whole grain bagel! Rooster!(That's "man" in hen language) That was really good! Speaking of rooster, we have two cute chicks in here that have grown up now and I heard the Mrs. say she thought one of them was a rooster! Wouldn't that be great! I can't wait to tell the girls about that! The Mrs. bought two supposed to be pullets for me hoping I would adopt them. I have too much to do already to adopt chicken tots! You know how much time that would take away from my vocalizing and practicing. BUT, on TV I saw where the one and only place I wanted to ever perform was flooded! My life is too short for this wait! I must get busy and get myself recognized by Josh Turner or someone as famous so I can get myself on the Grand Ole Opry like Barbara Mandrell did. I would have to sing "You Can Eat Crow in My Bed Anytime"...of course Barbara really liked her man to eat crackers! I would not care if he ate anything, just come on in! The hens would love that!! I'm not telling that I think "she is a he" and maybe we will keep that cock after all! We will tell him not to crow about things and give his secret away! Well, enough of that. After all, we are a bunch of good ole girls and are "GRITS". If you don't know what that means then here is a clue!
Girls Raised in the South...and that we are!
Thought for the day: A grit each day keeps the dr. away! Go for it!

Sunday, May 2, 2010

Oh, poop! I forget to tell you we had two other visitors! We had the Jones family come out and that sweet Hattie and Cole wanted to see what we did out here in our hen house...well, they watched us a while, took some pictures and then they were on their way. They were good kids and we loved to have them take a "peck" at us! Pictures to come later..my compooper isn't working right now.
Too long since I have been on this computer. The Mrs. has been out of town and all "eggs" turned loose here!!! Rain, Rain and more rain. ...but before I get into this I must tell you about the visits to our little "henny community!" Several weeks ago the Mrs. daughter and the boy scout troop 188 came to visit...would you believe they had the nerve to see us "girls"...then turn around and eat CHICKEN!!! Yes, the Mrs. fried some of our unlucky cousins for dinner. I think they were on the Perdue side of the family!!! Those Tyson people on one side are pretty fancy chickens so the Mrs. watches her money and bought what was on sale and Perdue won! Well, those scouts in Garrett's troop asked so many questions that it liked to driven me crazy not speaking about Princess and Sadie running around pecking at those kids badges!!! They really wanted to see what badges they had earned and no one paid a bit of attention to us but to see what we could produce for the day. Each one of them got a couple of our products for the day....that left the Mrs. with a few less eggs to give to her friends. The boys were happy and can you believe it that the scout master even asked "Where is the rooster"? Well, I just clucked up and told him that we didn't have to have a 'cock" to make us work around here!!!Those eggs taste better without that going on!!! Well that is enough about that. We enjoyed the boys and their dads and they enjoyed our Perdue cousins!!!
Back to the weather here in Franklin...it's rained for two days and where in the world was the Mrs. and the Mr...when we needed them the most. Our feather, feet and even our pen got wet...it's acutally stinks with the rain and the poop mixed. Wait till the Mrs. gets home and she will have to clean our pen and put new bedding in. The Mrs has a great friend who takes care of us when she's away...we pay her in eggs...well, actually we pay Ev in eggs!! He gets to watch us lay if he catches us just in the nick of time....
One more visit to tell about. Our friend Tommy and Sandi brought their grandson, Sam to see us. We are really getting popular with the friends and family around here. I decided to make a joyful noise when we saw Sam and sang one of my new songs for them. "Nine to Five" is the new one I have learned! They just clucked and clucked at my performance plus got a couple of eggs! This is not making sense...we lay the eggs and they walk off with them..shouldn't it be that they pay us instead of us pay them!
Gotta go roost...it's getting late and the other girls are getting ready to take over my spot in the hen house. They like to do that when I am the last one in..then I have to sit in the nest...isn't that too bad!!!
Thought for the day: Keep your feet above water!!

Who in the "pen" were our guests?

Sally Kaye and Emma Hill and Garrett and Wyatt Hill were the girls fans today...Camden got to spend some time with us last week also! They all showed good signs of future farmers!!!

Company's a comin'!!!

Got an egg-mail today that company was a comin'! That's what the hens were spreading around the pen today....well, it happened. Like to scared us to death, but they left with a dozen eggs and lots of fun! The Mrs. grandkids came today with a friend each! We had really groomed ourselves to be the prettiest ever and was waiting with our feathers fluffed when they got here. I thought they'd never leave!!! The Mrs. and Kim caught two of our girls in the real act of laying! Girl, we aren't modest at all...! Plop, down went one egg and before Jen could get out of the nest here came Princess!!! She's a rosey-nosey! She got up in that nest and looked for that egg, but the Mrs. had gotten it already b/c somehen around here has learned to fill their craw on eggs...we've got to break that! The Mrs. and Kim let the kids hold some of the girls, namely Princess and Jen because they like that stuff! Moi, personally don't care for it. It ruffles my feathers and that isn't good! Some of the pics of us girls and our visitors are posted on facebook..if the Mrs. can figure out how to do that!!!
Thought for the day! If your feathers get ruffled, just take some time to settle them down and you'll be fine! Dolly (Still waiting for Grand ole opry to call!!!)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Not a good day for us hens here in the hen house....The Mrs. was gone all day and we were literally "cooped up". This gorgeous weather and we couldn't forge any for worms or bugs just waiting for the other girls to eat...they say they are so yummy! The Mrs. and SK lifted some stones yesterday and wow, does Mary know here name!!! SK called out "Mary, come get this worm" and she came running!!! If they had called "Dolly", I would have not come b/c I don't eat worms!!! I only like the good stuff like bread, raw sunflower seeds and wonderful lettuce the Mrs.'s daughter saves for us! Don't really know what makes me so fat, but I suppose it's just the way I am built...big breasts, thighs and legs. I think I was named after someone famous!!!. Boy, if I had been in any other hen house, I'd be in someone's pot by now since I don't lay eggs!!! At least that is what I heard Jake and Phil tell the Mrs.!!! I feel very fortunate now at my ripe old age of 2 and never given birth or even raised a chicken-tot.
Announcement: Our gender has finally made some T.V. time!!! April 2nd, Friday all my cousins will be on Martha Stewart. She's one kind of a woman I hear. Wish we had a T.V. in our hen house for us to watch! It's all about "Back Yard Chickens"....and the Mrs. says she got a notice via of egg-mail (email for short) from mypetchicken.com. Go to that site and you will see there are "chicken lovers" all over the world. Interesting! The two new chicks the Mrs. got to put under me have moved to a small pen inside our pen! The heat light keeps them warm and last night they slept in their "box nest" with the light close by to feel warm like they are under moi!
Can you believe the Mrs. did that to me a couple of weeks ago!!! I fooled her!
Thought for the day: Don't jump out of the frying pan into the fire! (I learned that a long time ago!) Dolly

Saturday, March 20, 2010

With all this eggstra special weather yesterday and today our girls have had a great time just scratching around their yard....the Mrs. back/back yard. No one can see us except the must dreaded "chicken hawk"....With the leaves not on the trees yet we are a target for any of those mean relatives that fly over, although when the Mrs. is home she lets us out and keeps a pretty good eye out for our mean feathered friends. As a matter of fact, with that nesting eagle soaring he loves fresh chicken too! We got out today for about 2 hours and had a wonderful time fluffing our feathers!
The Mrs. grand-daughter, SK came yesterday and all the girls were talking about her Uggs!
"Princess", our fashion hen searched those Uggs up and down looking for diamonds! The Mrs. has stopped wearing her rings into our area since Princess has such a fetish about such things. You'd think she was looking for Prince Charming to come and invade our domain! You know we have a couple of buff brahmas (hens) in our pen who sport a pair of Fuggs themselves (that's feather-uggs for short). Their feathers on their feet are almost as pretty as those Uggs...SK had on. I guess we need to call them the Fugg sisters instead of Mrs. Cluck-cluck and Tracey!
Today someone ate Mary's egg! The Mrs. came out to feed when Mary was on her nest and when she came back later in the day Mary's eggs was gone! The Mrs. looked at all of us to see who had "Egg on their face", but we are pretty good about wiping it off after we have done such a thing! None of us will tell!
Till next time: The one with egg on their face is the guilty one!

Thursday, March 18, 2010

The weather has been just eggstra special eggspecially after all this cold stuff. The girls don't lay or eat as much in colder weather so, watch out girls...the fat is coming on this summer...eat your heart out!
Today was a very bad day for the Mrs... She and her grand-offspring went to 'market' to get feed and came home with me two of those tots I was talking about earlier...well, they waited until I was on the nest (which has been longer each day) and stuck those babies under me. I wondered what in the world was wiggling around and to my dismay, there were two of those chicken-tots in my nest. I sat a while and thought about how to handle this situation and really didn't want be a quiter to the Mrs. but I took all I could take and just jumped out of there and never went back...not sure that I will ever go back in there!!! Sometimes the Lord knows what a hen needs and it's not chicken-tots!

I then heard the Mrs and her offspring fixing a place to put those two until they got big enough to be with us girls...whew, was I molting this one!!! Guess the Mrs. learned her a real chicken lesson today!!!

Thought for today....don't count on the hens after the chicks have hatched!!!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Let's get over this winter weather so I can nest!

The Mrs. thinks I am trying to nest...Wonder why! I have been sitting on the other girls eggs now most of the day until the Mrs. grandkids come out and just plucked them from under me. It makes me so sad to know those eggs are going into a cake or scrambled eggs and not hatch. But after all there is no rooster around here so they won't hatch anyway. Oh, well.

Today I was sitting on the nest just singing away and here struts in the Mrs. with her basket! There goes my toasty eggs! As she left I heard her say that she wondered what I would do if she "snuck" a couple of chicks under me!!! I'd absolutely freak out!...but the more I think of it, maybe I'd like it. My hen instinct tells me to nest/raise chicks! Maybe if she did that to me it would make my life complete. After all, singing hasn't gotten me on the opry yet!

Now if the Mrs. does the above I will let you know, but in the meantime I will just keep sitting and singing. I have gotten a bit older now and my voice is much more mature. I sing in a contralto now instead of the soprano voice of the other girls in the coop. Acutally you ought to her Mrs. Cluck-Cluck when the Mrs.rounds the corner in the morning...she acutally giggles. I think she is a bit immature, but who am I to judge. Then there is princess....she lets out almost a scream when she sees the Mrs. come. I can't believe those girls get so excited about getting a few sunflower seeds.

I heard today that SK and a friend, Emma came to visit the Mrs and took a couple of the beautiful eggs the girls labored over and painted them. I think it must be Easter time which means I am 2 yrs. old now and not an egg to my name but what I have horded from the other girls. The Mrs. blew out the inside of the eggs, (I heard her doing this one day) and let those girls paint them...I did get a peak and they are beautiful. They were even able to put a beautiful bow on the eggs and I think I heard them say "hang them on a tree"....well, isn't that a bit strange! Oh, well, these people. I think the Mrs. is going to blow some more out for the other to paint!!! What people will do to put on a tree! The Mrs. went to Austria with her Mr. about 4 years ago and came home with 20 beautiful hand painted eggs. They hang in their sunroom on a "artificial" tree! The Mrs. then takes them down and puts them away until it's time to put them out again. Isn't that strange what humans do to an eggs...Hang it!!! Oh, well. The Mrs. and her daughter had to round up the other hens today while I was "nesting"....seems that G-man had a friend over and opened the door and the girls went a flying out! The girls love for guys to come by (I think they get their hopes up for a prince to come by,but the Mrs. wouldn't let that happen). The Mrs. says the "chicken hawk" can see the girls when they are making their rounds and that would be the end of those girls! After all, it has been a year last Thanksgiving that we had to "bury" Lacey in the garbage can b/c of the hawk....I need to remind them of that!

I've learned to go in the "in" door and come out the "out" door. The Mrs. took a picture of that last week. The other girls have not learned to read yet, so I am teaching them. Mary doesn't have time to learn to read...she is busy making those prize eggs! I pretend she is my friend, but I really don't like her b/c the Mrs. always is bragging on her eggs. Then there is the Americanas...green eggs!!!
Those seem to be a prize in themselves. Of course, Princess and Chickadee lay nice brown eggs and the buffs (buff orpingtons) lay a pinkish brown egg, while the older hens (2 years this Easter) are laying a light brown egg. Oh, that just eats my heart out! I heard the Mrs. say she was going to save money this year and not have to buy any easter egg dye since the girls lay such a variety of colors! Sure!

I'll keep you posted on the chicks....if it happens!!! Maybe I'll like having a family of my own. I think I will tell the Mrs. to drive to Sonic and buy a cheeseburger, they give "tots" with it...don't you humans call kids "tots" sometimes...! I also heard her say she wasn't going there for lunch! Beats me!

Till next time ! Dolly!

Thursday, March 4, 2010

New day. The Mrs. let us out of the pen for a while, wow! Now that we have an eagle living within miles of us I wonder if she really knows what she is doing letting us out! Eagles like chickens!
The girls told me they saw on HV (Henvision) there was a Bald Eagle's nest close to Jackson lake. The Mrs. passes by Jackson lake all the time going to work so I know it's not too far for an eagle to fly over our pen. Hawks like to eat chickens too, guess that's why they are called "chicken hawks". !! We are all in the pen and safe and sound for tonight.

One of our girls is blind in one eye. She developed some henvision problems when the dog got her when she was quite a bit younger. If she had not been young, she would probably not have survived, but the Mrs. saved her. She was in intensive care overnight and got special care and special food so that perked her up a bit. Enough to want to live.... The other girls and I wondered why she walked around with her head tilted but when the Mrs. realized she had some henvision problems and pecked at the food and missed it "Chickadee" got some special attention! We all have caught on when the Mrs. puts a pile of sunflower seeds all in one place for "Chickadee" to eat it! What we caught on to is we also can eat from her pile! She squaks and squaks until the Mrs. puts her out another pile. Some smart chick! All of us girls love those other bird's shelled sunflower seeds and if we make enough noise we get our own rations every morning. Six eggs today! Some one of them are holding out! Not me! It's time to roost now...speaking about roosting, I sure wish Mr. Rooster would come over here to our pen...we are all really "hennie"! Know what I mean! The Mrs. just doesn't understand! Oh, well, "Some day our prince will come"!
Thought for the day: If you can't lay an egg, just pretend! It will get you a home forever!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

It's been too long since I have written anything about my adventures in my hen house....so here goes. The Mrs. has been out here pretty much 3 times each day every day but Wed. Maybe she thinks I am going to lay!!! Well I try. Actually she has written a little book about my adventures and it will be posted soon on this blog so you can know where I have been and where I am going...I hope not the "pot". Well, since I am named Dolly I must be able to really sing. That is what the Mrs. tells me. For the last two days I see The Mrs. coming and I immediately go into the pen throught the "IN" door bc I now know how to read. I then look around to be sure she is looking and jump into the nesting box and scratch a bit. You know, I saw one of the other hens, nesting and after the Mrs. gave us some shelled sunflower seeds she went over and gave the nesting girl some.....so I figured that if I got up there and pretended the Mrs. would give me some and guess what!!! She did!!! I tried it for two days now and it is working!!! Getting back to the singing business, when I got into the nest I began my vocalizing which is a low coo and then it begins to increase in volume until I feel that I have done enough. I do wish I had a recording for my fans to enjoy. Maybe the Mrs. will do that someday. Out of the 9 other girls that occupy
my palace I am the only one that actually sings. All of the girls try, but then they tell me that I am the best!!! I believe them. The other girls can lay all the eggs they want, but I can't wait for the Grand Ole Opry to include me on their agenda!

Well enough of that stuff about me. The other girls needs some strokes now. I have never seen the Mrs. leave the henhouse with her basket full until Monday and she counted them as she went past our pen...1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9!!! Wow, those girls really produced that day.

I can't tell you enough how moi and the girls appreciate the work done by the Mrs. grandson, Logan! It was a beautiful day and we were all wishing to be out of the pen and then Logan showed up!!! He let us out, cleaned our pen, put new bedding in and then I just waddled in there to see what he had done and it was great!!! Of course I was anxious for him to finish because I love looking at my gallery of paintings on the wall. When the Mrs. figures out how to post them on my blog I will send some of the pictures that have been taken. You ought to see the ones of the other grandkids...they are eggcellent!!! Being I am the only "black sheep" in the group, I stand out a lot so there are several of me! Tonite it's really cold and I'm in my feather bed as well as Mary in hers. We get in there early so the other girls don't have a chance...they just sit on their roost and cuddle close together while Mary and I are nice and cozy in the feather beds!!....
The Mrs. and her family sure have given us a eggtra special place to cluck-out!
Thought for the day: Try and try again until you cannot try anymore!!! Moi Motto!

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Oh, my, even if it's winter these girls produce...I have 3 doz eggs that I will give away tomorrow!!
I actually saw a two hens lay!!! Interesting to me since I had never seen that before. They sat and sat, squaked and squaker (I think they call the kackle) and then they stood up and "plop" that egg came out right between her legs...not at all where I had expected it to come. To make sure that I saw it right, I waited for the next hen to finish laying and she did the same thing!!! I know it was a relief for them, they looked like it!!! We got 8 eggs yesterday and 6 today!!! We really don't eat that many, but it's fun to put them in the cartons and give them away!!! My better half says every egg they lay the costs of the eggs go down...after all it's the Ritz-Chickenton and it cost to build these days!!! Wish I had put a potty in there for them. My son told me to put concrete floor with a drain! Oh, well.

More to come about the person in charge in that hen house!!!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

the Ritz-Chickenton today's happenings

Today was a pretty quiet day for the "girls"...except for "Mary" who apparently wanted more than her share of bread scraps and took a good peck at GT's finger while "Minnie" was in a hurry to "lay" and flew to my better half while he was "scooping poop". Scared him to death!
I told you they didn't like the other gender in their hen house...well after all that they only produced two eggs today but made up with 5 yesterday. They probably missed Mio while I was in Atlanta!!!

Tip for the day: Throw all the bread crumbs into the pen at a time instead putting a piece at a time through the wire! They are like one of our latest generations and don't like to wait.

Friday, January 22, 2010

The first day of blogging!

Today, the Ritz-Chickenton is housing 10 fine feathered hens..no roosters allowed with these girls. Except my better half had to feed them today with Gt and clean up their poop! we will see how the outcome is... did the birds get fed and then poop up or is it still staying or frozen there!

Chicken tip of the day: dont feed your hens pellets.. feed them crumbles!
